Cedar Valley United Way Campaign Tops $3 Million

WATERLOO, IA – The 2012 Cedar Valley United Way campaign topped $3 million in giving for the fourth consecutive year, raising $3,081,617 to advance education, income and health in the Cedar Valley. The announcement was made during the Breakfast of Champions at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center Thursday morning.

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare President & CEO Jack Dusenbery and his wife, Holly, served as co-chairs for the 2012 campaign.

“The compassion that people in our community have for their neighbors, is humbling,” said Jack Dusenbery. “It was a wonderful experience to work with businesses leaders and individual donors across the Cedar Valley to make this a better community for all of us.”

“In the past six months, United Way funded programs have provided 34,322 noon meals to people in need, enabled 1,223 children to attend educational field trips, transported 252 seniors to their doctors’ appointments, and offered 93 families disaster assistance,” said Holly Dusenbery. “I’m excited that this work to help our friends and neighbors will continue thanks to you generous contributions.”

The annual campaign kicked off in August and continued through January. Money raised during the 2012 campaign will be distributed in funding grants to recipients selected by volunteer Community Impact Teams that review grant applications to make recommendations on how the money can most effectively work in the community. Programs that received funding in the past have included after-school and child care programs, disaster services, elderly transportation, community meals and help for victims of domestic violence. Cedar Valley United Way also funds 2-1-1 Information and Referral services.
