Diversity and Inclusion

UNITED WAY FIGHTS FOR THE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL STABILITY OF EVERY PERSON IN EVERY COMMUNITY.

We know the work of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is unique to every United Way community around the world. Below is United Way Worldwide's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement of Principle which outlines our commitment to building sustainable, inclusive and resilient organizations and communities.

Diverse Group of People

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE

We take the broadest view of diversity.

We value the visible and invisible qualities that make you who you are.

We welcome that every person brings a unique perspective and experience to advance our mission and progress our fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community and from every society.

We believe that each United Way community member, donor, volunteer, advocate and employee must have equal access to solving community problems.

We strive to include diversity, equity and inclusion practices at the center of our daily work.

We oppose all forms of racist and ethnic discrimination.

We commit to using these practices for our business and community.

UNITED WAY'S EQUITY VISION

We recognize the forms of oppression that have contributed to persistent disparities that United Way seeks to dismantle. Our network strives to engage community members. We work with residents and public and private partners to create solutions together that ensure everyone has the resources, support, opportunities and networks they need to thrive. We commit to leveraging our assets (convening, strategic investments, advocacy, awareness-building) to create more equitable communities for all.

PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNITY

Cedar Valley United Way is a company of individuals who possess a variety of perspectives, identities and lived experiences. We recognize that, to create an inclusive and intellectually vibrant community, we must understand and value both our individual differences and collective similarities. The Principles of Community are aspirational statements that embody this commitment and reflect the ideals we seek to uphold. Therefore, we adopt and practice the following principles as fundamental to our ongoing efforts to increase access and inclusion and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all our community members.

We affirm the right of each person to express thoughts and opinions freely. We encourage open expression within a climate of civility, sensitivity and mutual respect.

We affirm the inherent dignity and value of every person and strive to maintain a climate for work and learning based on mutual respect and understanding.

We affirm the value of human diversity because it enriches our lives and our organizations. We acknowledge and respect our differences while affirming our common humanity.

We reject all forms of prejudice and discrimination including those based on age, color, diverse ability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation and veteran status. We take individual and collective responsibility for helping to eliminate discrimination and for increasing our own understanding of these issues through education, training and interaction with others.

We pledge our collective commitment to incorporate these Principles into Cedar Valley United Way's strategic plan and everyday work.
