UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN DOLLARS ARE ‘MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER’

WATERLOO, IA – Cedar Valley United Way has entered the final days of the 2016 campaign. Contributions for this campaign are being accepted through Tuesday, January 31. The 2016 campaign theme of “Be the One” says it all. Don and Michelle Temeyer have spent the majority of their lives working in public service in the Cedar Valley.

Their work continued in a big way as they stepped into the co-chair roles last year. “We both have been highly involved in the community, but this is a different type of involvement. This has put us even closer to people in our community,” said Michelle.

The Temeyer’s were first acquainted with their Cedar Valley United Way mission by visiting local nonprofit organizations and learning more about United Way funded programs. “I was continually impressed with the dedication of the people leading the programs. They do it because they love it. They are people helping people,” said Michelle. “Recent indications of funding cuts from other sources make United Way dollars more important than ever.”

“People are willing to give a hand up. The Cedar Valley is a perfect example of what community is all about. People like to live here because of the relationships and people they can count on,” said Don. “I’ve been reminded of the help I received along the way. Thinking back makes you realize you don’t do it all on your own.”

Leading the 2016 campaign also brought Don and Michelle into businesses throughout the community. “We were met with overwhelming reception. There is real commitment to make the workplace campaigns fun,” said Don. “We were also grateful to see so many companies generously matching the employee contributions.”

The 2016 annual campaign closes Tuesday, January 31. Money raised provides grant funding for programs improving education, income stability, and health in the Cedar Valley. There is still time to give. Contributions can be made online at www.cedarvalleyunitedway.org or by calling 319-235-6211. Giving can also be done by texting UNITES to 41444.

Final results of the 2016 campaign will be announced at the Breakfast of Champions, Wednesday, March 29 at Hilton Garden Inn Cedar Falls. Tickets for the Breakfast of Champions are $10 per person or $80 for a table of 8. Reservations can be made online at www.cedarvalleyunitedway.org or by calling 319-235-6211.
